Bliss Balls

My kids absolutely love BLISS BALLS and will often request them as a snack in the lunch box. Luckily we don’t need to worry about nuts at school, but if your school has a ‘no nuts policy’, simply substitute the amount of cashews in this recipe with sunflower seeds or any seed you prefer.

We love to use Certified, Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) Essential Oils to naturally flavour our Bliss Balls. 2 benefits of using essential oils are:

  2. They add additional health benefits to this nutritionally-dense, powerhouse snack!

BLISS BALLS – BASE RECIPE

(start with this recipe, then add optional additions as outlined below to change up the flavour & health benefit)

140g Raw Cashews*

20g Shredded Coconut*

20g Chia Seeds* (Black or White or a mix of both – doesn’t matter)

8 Medjool Dates* (remove the pip)

 

*Use ORGANIC where possible

 

METHOD

  1. Throw all ingredients into thermomix, or good blender: Speed 5-6, 45 seconds. The mixture needs to be moist and is starting to clump together. If it is a little dry, blend for longer to bring out the natural oil from the cashews.
  2. Scoop tablespoon amounts of mixture into your palm and roll into balls.
  3. OPTION – Roll into desiccated coconut (this is finer than shredded coconut).

TIP: If you have bought shredded coconut, simply blitz 6 or so tablespoons of this in the thermomix, Speed 5, for 3-5 seconds to make desiccated coconut. Easy! (Do this before you make the bliss ball recipe, then remove the desiccated coconut from the thermomix bowl and place into a smaller bowl/plate)

4. Store in fridge to set.

 

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS

TO MAKE:

Lemon Bliss Balls – Add 2-5 drops CPTG Lemon Essential Oil to the BASE RECIPE

Orange Bliss Balls – Add 2-5 drops CPTG Wild Orange Essential Oil to the BASE RECIPE

Spearmint-Choc Bliss Balls – Add 1 Tablespoon Raw Cacao Powder* and 1-3 drops CPTG Spearmint Essential Oil to the BASE RECIPE

Peppermint-Choc Bliss Balls – Add 1 Tablespoon Raw Cacao Powder* and 1-3 drops CPTG Peppermint Essential Oil to the BASE RECIPE

Jaffa Bliss Balls – Add 1 Tablespoon Raw Cacao Powder* and 3-5 drops CPTG Wild Orange Essential Oil to the BASE RECIPE

*Use ORGANIC where possible

 

HEALTH BENEFITS

Chia Seeds – packed full of protein (amino acids), calcium, fiber, omega-3 fatty acid, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and zinc. These little beauties also absorb up to 12 times their weight in water, which ensures good hydration throughout the day and makes you feel full for longer! Cashews – Vitamins E, K & B6, Minerals Copper, Phosphorus, Zinc, Magnesium, Iron and Selenium, healthy Unsaturated Fats – to give you energy! Cashews have been known to ‘uplift the mood’.

Raw Organic Cacao Powder – 40 times the antioxidants of Blueberries, Magnesium &Calcium (more than Cow’s milk!)

NOTE Cocoa powder (including chocolate) is the cheaper version of Cacao Powder – it has been chemically processed and roasted which destroys large amounts of good stuff mentioned above. This includes antioxidants and flavanols – the things that keep you young and healthy! So when you hear people say “chocolate is good for you” – they are really referring to the health benefits of Raw Cacao Powder. Unfortunately, by the time this powder is processed and made into commercialised chocolate, most of the goodness is gone. So make your own chocolate snacks, using RAW CACAO POWDER.   2. Roll into balls. Put in fridge to firm or eat as is!
Options – want to CHANGE up the flavour?
  1. Omit lemon or wild orange, add 4 Tb cacao powder for a chocolate taste & flavour as you wish: 1-2 drops Spearmint (spearmint-choc) or 1-2 drops peppermint (peppermint-choc) or 3 drops wild orange (Jaffa flavour)!
